Please share and pass this information along to those in MACON and MIDDLE GA or any community in Georgia or the Southeastern States that were impacted.
First and foremost, if you require immediate emergency assistance, we are asked to dial 911.
For non-damage related questions, you can call 211 for assistance.
For additional assistance, such as food, water, or shelter-related questions: The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA) has compiled a list of resources related to food, shelter and donations here: https://gema.georgia.gov/hurricane-helene . We want you to be part of the Macon Violence Prevention conversation. We want to create a safe space for you to bring your needs and ideas that will help us prevent violent crime in Macon-Bibb,” says Commissioner Howell. “We want to hear from you because we cannot prevent violent crime without you. Together, we are MVP.”
Two more public forums have been added to the series, one for ministers and faith leaders and one for District 2. The Ministers’ Forum will be held Monday, July 26 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in City’s Hall’s Commission Chambers(700 Poplar Street) and will be led by Executive Director of Community Affairs Dr. Henry Ficklin. Commissioner Paul Bronson will hold a forum in District 2 at the Rosa Jackson Center (1211 Maynard Street) on Tuesday, July 27 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
“It’s important that we get viewpoints from all areas of our community because we all deserve a say in the plan to make our neighborhoods safer,” says Commissioner Bronson. “By hearing from a multitude of voices, we as elected officials and partners can create a more thorough plan that addresses the issues. It also will allow the public to hold us more accountable to implement the solutions.”
“We are working to include any entity and organization that is willing and able to help create safer neighborhoods, and that most certainly includes our faith-based community,” says Dr. Ficklin. “Our houses of worship are a direct connection to people, and they can provide a moral compass and an outreach effort that will greatly benefit our families and entire community.”

Want to help families get signed up for the Child Tax Credit?
Join the Automatic Benefit for Children Coalition – co-chaired by the Center for the Study of Social Policy and the Children’s Defense Fund– for a conversation with and for state and local community-based organizations about helping families get signed up for the Child Tax Credit.
Event: “Ensuring Families Receive the Child Tax Credit: Innovative Outreach Strategies and Removing Barriers for Families to Sign Up.”
Date and time: Tuesday, July 27th, 2:00-3:15pm ET
Presenters:
-
Courtney O’Reilly, Navigator Program Manager, Code for America
-
Darla Bardine, Executive Director, National Network for Youth
-
Kat Lilley-Blair, Chief Executive Officer, Family Promise of Colorado Springs
-
Pablo Blank, Director of Immigrant Integration, CASA
Event Description:
On July 15th, nearly 39 million families, covering 88% of children, automatically received their first month’s Child Tax Credit (CTC) payments, helping them with the cost of raising children. However, for the CTC to fulfill its potential to cut child poverty nearly in half, it must reach the millions of children whose families will not receive the payments automatically. Community based organizations across the country are working with families to conduct outreach and remove barriers to ensure that families get signed up and receive the monthly payments. The IRS has also developed a Non-Filer Sign Up tool that will help. Please join us to learn from national, state and local community-based organizations who serve families about innovative outreach strategies to raise awareness about the transformational credit and get families signed up. You will also see a walk-through training for how to assist families using the Non-Filer Sign Up tool.
